Abstract:

Background:
Bangladesh is a low prevalent country for HIV. Limitation of testing facilities restricts accurate reporting. Little information is available regarding dermatological findings and co-infections among HIV positive cases in our country
Objective:
To find out dermatological findings and co-infections among HIV positive patients attending ART centre of a tertiary care hospital.
Materials and Methods:
Suspected HIV cases of this region are referred to ART centre of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. HIV positive cases are diagnosed by Rapid Test( antibody test). 26 HIV cases were diagnosed positive among patients attending ART Centre of Chittagong Medical College Hospital during January 2020 to November 2020. The cases were thoroughly examined and investigated for any associated dermatological or systemic diseases and any co-infections.
Results:
Among 26 patients, three (11.5%) presented with seborrheic dermatitis, two(7.6%) with oral candidiasis and one(3.8%) patient with molluscum contagiosum. Three (11.5%) patients also suffered from Hepatitis B, two(7.6%) from Hepatitis C and one(3.8%) from Pulmonary TB. Out of 26 patients eleven (42.3%) patients were between 25-35 years of age, which is very productive age of life, while two (7.6%) patients were between 56-66 years of age.
Conclusion:
The study reveals that HIV infection is associated with some common skin problems and co-infection like pulmonary TB, Hepatitis B and C. So screening for HIV should be done in suspected patients suffering above dermatilogical problems and co-infections.
